JAKARTA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia's Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) said on Friday that it recorded a total of 106.1 trillion rupiahs (about 7.23 billion U.S. dollars) worth of the foreign direct investment (FDI) in the third quarter of 2020, the board's head Bahlil Lahadalia said here.

At a virtual press conference, he said the FDI in the third quarter is 50.8 percent of the total investment realization. The domestic direct investment (DDI) in the third quarter is 102.9 trillion rupiahs (7.01 billion U.S. dollars).

"This is interesting. The growth in the realization of the FDI has started to increase although it's not too maximal and almost equal to the DDI. This means that the third quarter is a momentum for the growth to increase following the decrease in the FDI in the second quarter," Lahadalia said.

In the second quarter, Indonesia recorded a further decline in the FDI realization as the COVID-19 pandemic batters both the national and global economy.

The FDI in that quarter fell by 6.9 percent year-on-year (yoy) to 97.6 trillion rupiahs (6.65 billion U.S. dollars) between April and June, continuing the downward trend recorded in the first three months of the year. In the first quarter, the FDI dropped by 9.2 percent yoy.

The total investment realization in the third quarter, according to BKPM, reached 209 trillion rupiahs (14.25 billion U.S. dollars), up by 8.9 percent of the value in the same quarter of the previous year.

The investment in the third quarter went into five main sectors, mainly those on transportation, warehouse and communications; metal and non-machine businesses; the electricity, gas and water; constructions; and housing, industrial estates and offices.

China, Singapore, Japan, China's Hong Kong and the Netherlands were main sources of the FDI between July and September this year.

Early this year, BKPM set an investment realization target of 886 trillion rupiahs (60.4 billion U.S. dollars) in 2020, which is 9.4 percent higher than the recorded investment realization last year. Enditem
