BOGOTA, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Colombian authorities rescued on Friday three miners who had been trapped in a coal mine in the municipality of Tuta.
The workers, who had been trapped 60 meters underground, are currently in good health, the mayor of Tuta, Yesid Soto, told local media.
He said that the three miners had been trapped since Tuesday, and the other miners contacted rescue authorities after unsuccessfully attempting to extract their coworkers for 12 hours.
Soto explained that rescue authorities used a hose to first pump out water from the mine and then used it to supply the trapped miners with liquids and oxygen.
Rescue authorities had to build a parallel tunnel to rescue the three miners.
"We are grateful to the people who participated in this rescue ... (The miners) will be sent to a medical center. In most accidents that occur in the mines, incidents occur, people are killed, but in this case, they are well," said the mayor. Enditem
