ULAN BATOR, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Citizens' Representative Council (CRC) of Mongolia's capital Ulan Bator elected a new mayor of the capital city on Friday.
Dolgorsuren Sumiyabazar, member of the ruling Mongolian People's Party (MPP) and former mining and heavy industry minister, was elected the city's mayor with a vote of over 71 percent in the 45-seat council.
Local elections took place in the capital and all of the country's 21 provinces on Oct. 15. The MPP took 34 of 45 seats in the CRC and won in 13 of 21 provinces.
Local government elections are held every four years following regular parliamentary elections in Mongolia.
The country held parliamentary elections in June amid tight anti-coronavirus measures. The MPP won a landslide victory in the elections, taking 62 of 76 seats in the unicameral parliament or the State Great Khural. Enditem
