BRATISLAVA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- With a pilot nationwide testing scheme for COVID-19 planned for next weekend, Slovakia's government have decided to implement a soft lockdown, starting on Saturday and lasting until November 1st.

The five top-tier sport leagues in the country (football, ice hockey, basketball, volleyball and handball) were granted an exemption and were allowed to continue during the lockdown, although without any spectators.

This disrupted the plans of Dunajska Streda FC, which was ramping up efforts to bring fans into their stadium by offering a free antigen test.

Sports and cultural events across the country have experienced massive losses in ticket earnings due to the pandemic and are in desperate need of financial rescue. Enditem
