BOGOTA -- The Colombian Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced on Saturday that the country had reached 1,007,711 cases of the novel coronavirus, while the death toll rose to 30,000.

The ministry reported that in the last 24 hours, 8,769 new cases of the disease were reported, most of them in the Colombian capital of Bogota with 2,531 cases, in the department of Antioquia with 1,864 cases, and in the Valle del Cauca region with 631. (Colombia-COVID-19)

LONDON -- Another 23,012 people in Britain have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 854,010, according to official figures released Saturday.

NAIROBI -- At least 3.6 million people were impacted by floods and landslides across large swathes of East Africa since June, the UN humanitarian agency said on Saturday.

LOS ANGELES -- A huge wildfire burning in the U.S. state of Colorado prompted more evacuation orders Saturday morning after an elderly couple were confirmed dead in the blaze.

The fire, dubbed East Troublesome Fire, had burned 188,389 acres (nearly 762 square kilometers) as of Saturday noon, forcing thousands of people to evacuate from Grand Lake to Estes Park, where over 7,000 residents live. (US-Colorado-Wildfire) Enditem
