TOKYO, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks were essentially flat Monday morning as investors bought on optimism for upbeat earnings from Japanese firms although concerns over resurgences of COVID-19 cases in Europe and the United States weighed on sentiment.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average shed 2.18 points, or 0.01 percent, from Friday to 23,514.41.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, edged down 2.79 points, or 0.17 percent, at 1,622.53.
Construction and electric appliance issues led notable gainers, while iron and steel as well as service issues comprised those that declined the most by the morning break. Enditem
