Live COVID-19 updates: Bangladesh cases rise to 401,586, death toll reaches 5,838

BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,335 new COVID-19 cases and 20 new deaths on Tuesday, making the tally at 401,586 and death toll at 5,838, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 12,617 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry reported 6,968 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total confirmed number in the country to 581,824.

The pandemic has so far claimed 33,299 lives in Iran, up by 346 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 16,550 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,547,774, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 320 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 26,589.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,520 within one day to 396,454, with the death toll adding by 101 to 13,512, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 4,576 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 322,248.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 1,524 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 373,144.

The DOH said 353 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 328,602. The death toll climbed to 7,053 after 14 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 7,946,429 even as 36,470 more cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry on Tuesday.

The death toll surged to 119,502, with 488 deaths recorded since Monday morning.

SOFIA -- The Bulgarian Health Ministry on Tuesday reported record new COVID-19 infections and deaths of 2,243 and 42 respectively over the past 24 hours, taking the national tally of confirmed cases and death toll to 40,132 and 1,136 respectively.

The previous daily records of 1,595 new COVID-19 cases and 29 related deaths were reported on Friday and Thursday, respectively.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 88 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours as of Tuesday, raising its total tally to 26,043.

The daily caseload fell below 100 after 119 recorded in the previous day, but the double-digit increase continued due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported one new imported case of COVID-19 from government managed isolation site and no new community cases on Tuesday.

The imported case involved a person arriving from London via Kuala Lumpur who tested positive for COVID-19 after arrival, Director-General of Health Ashley Bloomfield told a press briefing. Enditem
