JAKARTA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has launched an online system aimed at enabling foreign travelers to apply for online visas during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic to avoid face-to-face contacts.

Launched by Minister for Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly here on Tuesday, the new system will make the application process "faster, simpler and transparent."

The minister said that the move was in line with the government's policy in helping recover the country's economy through investments and tourism development once the pandemic is over.

"The implementation of the electronic visa service will hopefully bring positive messages to the world that Indonesia has implemented a bureaucratic reform and is ready to be an investment destination," he said in a statement.

Under the new system, travelers will only need to submit visa applications and provide required data on www.visa-online.imigrasi.go.id. The visa approval announcements will be delivered to emails of the applicants.

The new system will be very important in the coming weeks and months as some foreign travels to the archipelagic nation will resume.

Indonesia has reached agreements on travel corridors with several countries, including China, Singapore, South Korea, Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to grant leeway to state departments and businesses from those countries.

The agreements allow them to reconnect and resume projects that had been halted as a result of the pandemic while still complying with health procedures. Enditem
