Live COVID-19 updates: The Netherlands reports over 10,000 new infections in 24 hours, Africa's cases pass 1.72 mln

BEIJING, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

THE HAGUE -- The Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) reported on Tuesday 10,315 new COVID-19 infections in the Netherlands in a 24-hour span, almost as many as a day earlier.

It was the third day in a row that the daily number of infections topped the 10,000 mark in the Netherlands. On Monday, the RIVM said the daily number of confirmed new cases reached a new high of 10,343, following Sunday's figure of 10,202.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed cases in the African continent has reached 1,727,837, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Tuesday.

The continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement that the death toll related to the pandemic stood at 41,609 as of Tuesday afternoon.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore's Ministry of Health (MOH) reported seven new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 57,980.

Of the new cases, six are imported cases, one is a community case and none is linked with the dormitories of foreign workers.

NEW DELHI -- India's federal health ministry said on Tuesday that the country registered one million COVID-19 recoveries in 13 days.

The ministry said India's number of cases per million population as well as deaths per million population are amongst the lowest in the world.

URUMQI -- Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has completed COVID-19 testing for all 4.75 million people in its southern prefecture of Kashgar following the recent new local cases, local officials said Tuesday.

As of 5 p.m. (0900 GMT) Tuesday, Kashgar had five confirmed COVID-19 cases and 178 asymptomatic ones, all in Shufu County.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported three new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,172 with 35 deaths from the disease so far, according to the country's Ministry of Health.

The new cases include a Vietnamese and two foreigners who have recently entered the country from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry.

BEIJING -- Beijing has launched an online tracing platform to strengthen the supervision of imported cold-chain foods amid the COVID-19 pandemic, local authorities have said.

Producers and marketers of imported frozen meat and aquatic products in Beijing are required to register on the platform, according to a circular jointly released by the municipal administration for market regulation and the municipal commerce bureau.

WASHINGTON -- Major League Soccer (MLS) team Atlanta United announced on Monday that they have canceled in-person activities at their training facility after one player tested positive for COVID-19.

The team will take on Orlando City on Wednesday, and the match is currently set to proceeding as scheduled.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,335 new COVID-19 cases and 20 new deaths on Tuesday, making the tally at 401,586 and death toll at 5,838, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 12,617 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry reported 6,968 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total confirmed number in the country to 581,824.

The pandemic has so far claimed 33,299 lives in Iran, up by 346 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 16,550 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,547,774, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Tuesday.

Meanwhile, 320 new deaths were reported, taking the death toll to 26,589.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,520 within one day to 396,454, with the death toll adding by 101 to 13,512, the Health Ministry said on Tuesday.

According to the ministry, 4,576 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 322,248.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday reported 1,524 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 373,144.

The DOH said 353 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 328,602. The death toll climbed to 7,053 after 14 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 7,946,429 even as 36,470 more cases were registered during the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry on Tuesday.

The death toll surged to 119,502, with 488 deaths recorded since Monday morning. Enditem
