Live COVID-19 updates: New Zealand reports two new imported cases in managed isolation

BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported two new imported cases of COVID-19 in managed isolation and no new community cases on Wednesday.

The first imported case is a person who arrived from Paris on Friday while the second arrived from London, according to the Ministry of Health.

BEIJING -- Chinese health authority said Wednesday that it received reports of 42 new confirmed COVID-19 cases on the Chinese mainland Tuesday, including 22 that were domestically transmitted and 20 imported.

All the domestically-transmitted cases were asymptomatic cases from northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region that were re-categorized as confirmed cases, according to the National Health Commission and Xinjiang's health commission.

SAO PAULO -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll reached 157,946 after 549 more daily deaths were reported, the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday.

The single-day fatalities were almost double the number reported on Monday.

PARIS -- The French government is considering a month-long lockdown nationwide to halt the COVID-19 epidemic resurgence, France's BFM TV reported Tuesday.

The lockdown could take effect from midnight on Thursday. But such a measure has not been announced yet. BFM TV said the lockdown would be more flexible than restrictions imposed in March this year.

TRIPOLI -- The National Center for Disease Control of Libya on Tuesday reported 752 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 57,975.

The center said in a statement it received a total of 3,405 suspected samples, of which 752 tested positive, adding that 738 patients have recovered while 11 others died over the period.

MADRID -- The Spanish Health Ministry confirmed on Tuesday that the country registered 18,418 new infections and 267 deaths over the past 24 hours. It is the highest daily COVID-19 deaths in the second wave.

The total number of infections since the start of the pandemic in Spain reached 1,116,738 and the death toll rose to 35,298. Enditem
