MUMBAI, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- India's Infosys has turned carbon neutral 30 years ahead of the 2050 deadline set by the Paris Agreement, a company statement said Wednesday.

"Our company began to take action to combat climate change in 2008 and I am delighted to announce Infosys' carbon neutrality in 2020," said Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and chairman at Infosys.

The company also published its Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Vision for 2030 as part of Infosys' long-standing commitments across core areas of climate change, technology, diversity and inclusion, energizing local communities, ethics and transparency, data privacy and information management.

"As an early proponent of responsible business, we understand our obligation to integrate ESG factors into what we do, which is only increasing in importance particularly in the wake of COVID-19," Nilekani said.

According to The Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, Infosys' work campuses are some of the most energy-efficient in the world as it has reduced its per capita electricity consumption by over 55 percent in the past few years with the ambition to transition to renewable energy.

The global leader in next-generation digital services and consulting company has also successfully developed a portfolio of community-based carbon offset projects with focus primarily on socio-economic development of rural communities and contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
