CAIRO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- A 12-year-old Ukrainian child lost an arm and an Egyptian tour guide a leg in a recent shark attack in Egypt's Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, authorities said.

The incident took place Sunday when the boy and his mother were snorkeling with a tour guide, and they encountered a two-meter long Oceanic Whitetip shark, the Environment Ministry said in a statement.

The injured were hospitalized for urgent treatment: the mother suffered deep bite wounds while her child was in intensive care unit with an upper limb below the elbow amputated, and the tour guide lost a leg in the attack.

The ministry has decided to suspend all human activities in the vicinity of the diving spot.

News reports say video shots underwater near the accident area showed the shark's abnormal behavior with hostilities against humans. Enditem
