Live COVID-19 updates: Iran reports highest 8,293 daily cases, 596,941 in total

BEIJING, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN -- Iran's Health Ministry reported 8,293 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, the highest daily increase since the disease outbreak in the country, raising the total nationwide number to 596,941.

The pandemic has so far claimed 34,113 lives in Iran, up by 399 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,565 within one day to 404,048, with the death toll adding by 89 to 13,701, the health ministry said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, 3,985 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 329,778.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 649 new COVID-19 infections, the health ministry said on Thursday, bringing the national total to 30,090.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that seven of the new cases are imported and 642 are local transmissions.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 1,681 new COVID-19 cases and 25 new deaths on Thursday, making the tally at 404,760 and the death toll at 5,886, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

The official data showed that 14,268 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported three additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, taking Hong Kong's tally to 5,313.

Of the newly-reported cases, two had a travel history during the incubation period and the remaining one was epidemiologically linked with a local case.

MOSCOW -- Russia reported record 17,717 new COVID-19 cases and 366 related deaths over the past 24 hours, the national COVID-19 response center said Thursday.

According to the center's statement, 14,740 recoveries were registered in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of COVID-19 recoveries in the country to 1,186,041. Enditem
