RIO DE JANEIRO, Oct. 29 (Xinhua) -- Brazil saw an increase of 313,564 formal jobs in September, the third month in a row of job growth and the strongest monthly result of 2020, the government said on Thursday.

According to the Economy Ministry's Secretariat of Labor, September saw 1,379,509 new formal job hires and 1,065,945 resignations.

It was the best employment performance for September since 2010. However, so far this year, the country's economy has lost 558,597 formal jobs, the third worst result since 2010.

All sectors of the economy helped boost job numbers in September, led by the manufacturing industry, which created 108,283 formal jobs.

The service sector almost doubled the number of jobs created in August, from 42,545 to 80,482, while the hospitality and restaurant sector saw job growth for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, with the opening of 4,637 formal jobs.

Brazil's number of formal jobs in September totaled 38,251,026, up 0.83 percent from August. Enditem
