Live COVID-19 updates: India's total infections reach 8,088,851

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,088,851 on Friday as 48,648 new cases were detected across the country in the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

With 564 deaths since Thursday morning, the total death toll in the country due to the pandemic reached 121,090, added the ministry's data.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's Ministry of Public Health on Friday said it will revamp and re-adjust COVID-19 preventive measures at more than 100 hotels under the alternative state quarantine program.

The move came after two people, who were quarantined in the same Thai hotel with an infected French woman, tested positive for COVID-19.

CANBERRA -- The COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the mental health of 75 percent of Australians aged 18 to 24, according to a poll published by Ipsos and Nine Entertainment newspapers on Friday.

By comparison, 65 percent of those polled aged 25 to 39 said the pandemic and restrictions have impacted on their mental wellbeing, 49 percent of those aged 40 to 54 and 35 percent of those aged 55 and above.

PHNOM PENH -- A Cambodian man serving as an operations officer at the UN Mission in South Sudan tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Cambodia, a spokeswoman of the Ministry of Health (MoH) said on Friday.

The 51-year-old officer landed in Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, on Wednesday from South Sudan, with connecting flights in Cuba, Ethiopia and South Korea, said MoH Secretary of State and spokeswoman Or Vandine.

KIGALI -- The COVID-19 pandemic has affected all people in the food supply chain in Rwanda as well as the food security of the country, Rwandan officials said here on Thursday.

The effects of the pandemic are rising and expected to increase the number of people facing food insecurity, Rwandan Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Gerardine Mukeshimana told national celebrations held online to mark the World Food Day.

BUENOS AIRES -- Argentina on Thursday reported 372 more deaths from COVID-19, pushing the national tally to 30,442, according to the Ministry of Health.

The ministry also reported 13,267 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide count to 1,143,800 with 946,134 recoveries.

QINGDAO -- The city of Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province reported one new confirmed case of COVID-19 on Thursday, the municipal health commission said Friday.

The new case is a 34-year-old female nurse at the closed-off isolation ward of the Third People's Hospital of Qingdao, a designated hospital to receive COVID-19 patients. Enditem
