Live COVID-19 updates: Russia reports record daily increase in infections

BEIJING, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered a record daily increase of 18,283 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country's COVID-19 response center said Friday.

Russia has by now reported a total of 1,599,976 cases with 27,656 deaths and 1,200,560 recoveries, the center said in a statement.

TOKYO -- The Tokyo metropolitan government reported 204 new daily COVID-19 infections, according to preliminary figures released at 3:00 p.m. local time on Friday.

The latest figure for the capital of 14 million marks the second straight day that infections have topped the 200-mark and the 11th successive day new positive cases have surpassed 100, the metropolitan government said.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) Friday reported 2,006 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number in the country to 378,933.

The DOH said 636 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 330,457. The death toll climbed to 7,185 after 38 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

BANGKOK -- Thailand's Ministry of Public Health on Friday said it will revamp and re-adjust COVID-19 preventive measures at more than 100 hotels under the alternative state quarantine program.

The move came after two people, who were quarantined in a same Thai hotel with an infected French woman, tested positive for COVID-19.

SYDNEY -- The Australian state of Queensland said Friday it will allow entry to travelers from most of neighboring New South Wales (NSW) state, while restrictions still remained in place for capital city Sydney and Victoria state.

From Nov. 3, NSW residents from outside the Greater Sydney area will be allowed to travel to Queensland for any reason for the first time since March, and vice versa.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,088,851 on Friday as 48,648 new cases were detected across the country in the past 24 hours, said the latest data released by the federal health ministry.

With 564 deaths since Thursday morning, the total death toll in the country due to the pandemic reached 121,090, added the ministry's data. Enditem
