DUSHANBE, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Tajikistan's reelected President Emomali Rahmon was sworn in at an inauguration ceremony held here Friday.

During the ceremony, Rahmon was presented with a certificate of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and took the oath of allegiance to the constitution.

In his speech, Rahmon expressed his gratitude to the Tajik people for their support and vowed to protect the interests of the state, and the rights and freedoms of the country's citizens.

Outlining key development goals in his new term, the president said he would guarantee energy and food security, promote infrastructure construction and improve the life quality of citizens.

The president pledged to double the country's gross domestic product from the current level over the next seven years, expand the proportion of middle-income residents to 45 percent, and reduce the poverty rate to 15 percent.

He also urged efforts to improve the social status of women and expand their involvement in economic activities.

Rahmon was reelected as president for a fifth term after winning nearly 91 percent of the vote in the presidential election, held on Oct. 11.

Rahmon, who was born in 1952, was elected as president in 1994 and previously re-elected in 1999, 2006 and 2013. Enditem
