BERLIN, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Bayer Leverkusen came from behind and took all three points from Freiburg courtesy of Lucas Alario's brace in the sixth round in the Bundesliga on Sunday.

The hosts ensured a bright start on home soil as Lucas Holer met Lukas Kubler's through ball before slotting home with the outside of his boot from 14 meters and three minutes played.

Freiburg retracted with the narrow lead and let Leverkusen do the work. However, the "Werkself" wasn't able to break through Freiburg's well positioned defense.

With 20 minutes gone, Peter Bosz' men thought they had to continue the game with 10-men as Lars Bender saw a straight red card for a foul on Holer. The video assistant referee intervened and changed the decision to a yellow card.

Leverkusen assumed control and had its first chance 29 minutes into the game, as Leon Bailey tested Freiburg's goalkeeper Florian Muller.

Seconds later, the visitors showed no mercy as Alario intercepted a misplaced pass from Holer and overcame Muller for the equalizer.

Freiburg responded well and forced Leverkusen goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky into action as Vincenzo Grifo headed dangerously goalward in the 33rd minute.

However, the second goal was scored at the other end of the pitch, as Lars Bender forced a turnover and teed up for Alario, who made no mistake to turn the tide with his second goal of the day in the 43rd minute.

After the restart, Leverkusen sat back and defended their lead. Freiburg increased the pressure but still Leverkusen doubled its advantage against the run of the play as Nadiem Amiri's 20 meters strike found the top right corner of the net in the 64th minute.

Freiburg kept pushing and was rewarded after Nils Petersen drilled Grifo's cross to the second post from a tight angle past Hradecky in the 72nd minute.

Leverkusen relentlessly took the wind out of Freiburg's sails five minutes later, as Kerem Demirbay's cross allowed Jonathan Tah to head home from close range.

With the third win of the season, unbeaten Leverkusen stay in fourth place whereas Freiburg slip to 13th place after recording its third loss of the season.

Elsewhere, Wolfsburg hijacked one point from Hertha Berlin as Ridle Baku cancelled out Matheus Cunha's early opener. After four straight defeats Hertha at least managed a point and move to 14th place while Wolfsburg remain in the 10th spot after securing its fifth draw from six games.

On Monday, Hoffenheim encounter Union Berlin to conclude the sixth round. Enditem
