Sri Lanka's total COVID-19 cases surpass 11,000

COLOMBO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka rose to 11,224 on Monday after 164 new patients were detected, according to the health ministry.

Out of the total patients, 5,249 had recovered and been discharged from hospitals while 22 deaths have been reported.

Sri Lanka has in recent weeks seen a surge in the number of new infections after two new clusters were detected early last month in Minuwangoda, on the outskirts of capital Colombo, and another one from a fish market in Peliyagoda, in Colombo.

The Western Province which includes Colombo remains under curfew till Nov. 9, the authorities said. Enditem
