BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 jolted South Sandwich Islands region at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday (0135 GMT on Wednesday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 39.38 km, was initially determined to be at 55.884 degrees south latitude and 27.0226 degrees west longitude.

South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands is a British Overseas Territory in the southern Atlantic Ocean. There are no permanent residents in the territory but the British Antarctic Survey operates two bases on South Georgia island. Enditem
