KUNDUZ, Afghanistan -- Six people including two policemen and four Taliban militants have been confirmed dead as clashes erupted in Chardara district of Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province on Wednesday, district governor Hafizullah Safi said.

"A group of Taliban militants attacked a security checkpoint in Nahr-e-Sufi area early this morning and police returned fire, forcing the militants to flee after leaving four bodies behind," Safi told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Clashes)

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday reported 987 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 388,137.

The number of daily confirmed cases reported on Wednesday is the lowest recorded since July 14. The DOH said 140 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 349,091. The death toll climbed to 7,367 after 49 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added. (Philippines-COVID-19)

ISLAMABAD -- The Pakistani cabinet has announced a major relief package in electricity prices for small and medium scale industries to enhance the country's exports.

In a televised address on Tuesday after a meeting of the cabinet, here, the country's Prime Minister Imran Khan and the cabinet members said that the industries using additional electricity compared to the amount they used in November last year, will get 50 percent discount on the additional units they consume, encouraging the industrial sector to increase their production.
