BERLIN, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- COVID-19 infections in Germany increased by 21,506 within one day, a record daily spike, taking the total to 619,089 cases, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the federal government agency for disease control and prevention, announced on Friday.
The number of deaths related to COVID-19 in Germany, which entered a month-long lockdown to counteract the spread of the virus, rose by 166 within one day to a total of 11,096, according to the RKI.
Almost all districts in Germany showed a "high seven-day incidence" beyond the critical threshold of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, the latest daily situation report by RKI revealed.
In most German districts, COVID-19 transmission could not be clearly traced back anymore, said RKI. Meanwhile, many small outbreaks in hospitals, facilities for asylum-seekers and refugees, various occupational settings, and religious gatherings continued to play a role in Germany's rising COVID-19 figures.
As of Thursday, Germany's intensive care bed capacities have been occupied at more than 75 percent, leaving only 6,894 intensive care beds available for treating new COVID-19 patients, according to the DIVI online registry for intensive care beds. Enditem
