Live COVID-19 updates: Malaysia reports 1,755 new COVID-19 cases in highest daily spike

BEIJING, Nov. 6 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,755 new COVID-19 infections in the highest daily spike since the outbreak, the Health Ministry said on Friday, bringing the national total to 38,189.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that three of the new cases are imported and 1,752 are local transmissions. Health authorities have also detected six new case clusters.

BEIJING -- All anti-COVID-19 medical supplies donated by the Chinese government to women, children and the youth in 53 African countries through the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) have been smoothly delivered, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Friday.

Spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a daily press briefing that China has overcome difficulties such as restricted international transport to ship all supplies to African countries within four months.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 3,778 within one day to 429,574, with the death toll adding by 94 to 14,442, the health ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, 3,563 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 360,705.

MOSCOW -- Russia has confirmed a record number of 20,582 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its total to 1,733,440, the country's COVID-19 response center said in a statement Friday.

Meanwhile, 378 new deaths were reported, taking the nationwide count to 29,887.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, with the national tally of cases standing at 148.

It marked the 15th consecutive day without new cases since Oct. 22, when the country recorded an imported case.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported 2,092 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection on Friday, bringing the total number in the country to 391,809.

The DOH said 462 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 349,974. The death toll climbed to 7,461 after 52 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Center for Health Protection (CHP) reported six additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Friday, taking the tally to 5,361.

All of the newly-reported cases were imported, involving four males and two females aged between 18 and 55 who arrived from India, Britain, the Philippines, Ethiopia and Indonesia. Enditem
