Live COVID-19 updates: Myanmar reports 1,029 new cases, 24 more deaths

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YANGON -- Myanmar reported 1,029 more COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the tally in the country to 61,377, according to a press release from the Ministry of Health and Sports.

A total of 24 more COVID-19 deaths were reported on Sunday, bringing the death toll to 1,420 in total, the release said.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed cases in the African continent reached 1,870,348 with a death toll of 44,849 as of Sunday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

A total of 1,577,213 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent so far, according to the continental disease control and prevention agency.

TEHRAN -- Iran reported 459 deaths on Sunday related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, making it the highest daily death toll since the outbreak of the virus in the country.

The new figure took the overall death toll of the epidemic in Iran to 38,291, Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing.

WUHAN -- Central China's Hubei Province reported four confirmed COVID-19 cases and two asymptomatic cases Saturday, all imported from Indonesia, the provincial health commission said Sunday.

The patients and asymptomatic carriers arrived in Wuhan Tianhe International Airport from Jakarta, Indonesia via Sriwijaya Air flight SJ3124 on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 852 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Sunday, bringing the national total to 40,209.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that 13 of the new cases are imported and with the remainder being local transmissions. The majority of the new cases are from eastern state of Sabah, with 524 of the new cases reported in the state. Enditem
