TEHRAN -- Iran reported 459 deaths on Sunday related to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, making it the highest daily death toll since the outbreak of the virus in the country.

The new figure took the overall death toll of the epidemic in Iran to 38,291, Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing.

She noted that 682,486 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed so far in Iran, after the registration of 9,236 infections in the past 24 hours. (Iran-COVID-19)

CAIRO -- The Arab League (AL) welcomed the recent endorsement of six UN resolutions in favor of the Palestinian people and their rights and opposing Israeli practices, the Cairo-based pan-Arab body said in a statement on Sunday.

"This vote reflects the commitment of the international community towards the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost of which is the right to self-determination and the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes," Saeed Abu Ali, AL assistant secretary general for Palestine affairs and occupied Arab territories, said in the statement. DAMASCUS -- The Turkish forces started withdrawing from another base in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib on Sunday, a war monitor reported.

After dismantling its equipment in the military observation point in the Mar Hatat area in the southern countryside of Idlib, the Turkish forces started their withdrawal on Sunday morning, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. (Syria-Turkey)

RABAT -- Morocco on Sunday reported 4,596 new COVID-19 cases, taking the number of infections in the country since March 2 to 256,781.
