Live COVID-19 updates: U.S. cases surpass 10 mln -- Johns Hopkins University

BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW YORK -- The total number of COVID-19 cases in the United States reached a grim milestone of 10 million on Monday, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

U.S. COVID-19 case count rose to 10,018,278, with a total of 237,742 deaths, as of 1:25 p.m. local time (1825 GMT), according to the CSSE tally.

ANKARA -- Turkey's daily COVID-19 patients increased by 2,576 on Monday, raising the total number in the country to 396,831, the Turkish Health Ministry announced.

Meanwhile, 85 people died in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 10,972.

JERUSALEM -- Israel's Ministry of Health reported 647 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total to 319,888.

The death toll rose to 2,678 with four new fatalities, while the number of patients in serious condition increased from 330 to 333 out of 587 patients hospitalized.

TEHRAN -- Iran announced on Monday a record of 10,463 new COVID-19 infections in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of cases in the country to 692,949, official news agency IRNA reported.

Sima Sadat Lari, the spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, said at her daily briefing that 3,574 of the newly infected patients required hospitalization. Enditem
