BEIJING, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed cases in the African continent reached 1,891,744 with a death toll of 45,609 as of Tuesday afternoon, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

A total of 1,597,140 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered across the continent so far, according to the continental disease control and prevention agency.

LONDON -- The British unemployment rate surged to 4.8 percent in the third quarter of 2020 as the country's labor market continued to be hit significantly by the COVID-19 pandemic, the British Office for National Statistics said Tuesday.

An estimated 1.62 million people were unemployed in the three months, 0.9 percentage points higher year-on-year and 0.7 percentage points higher than the second quarter, figures showed.

TEHRAN -- Iran's health ministry reported 10,339 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, raising the total nationwide number to 703,288.

The pandemic has so far claimed 39,202 lives in Iran, up by 453 in the past 24 hours, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing.

BEIJING -- Vitality and recovery of China's small and medium-sized enterprises kept improving in October as the country's relief policies generated more tangible benefits, the latest industry data showed.

In general, nearly 97 percent of surveyed firms resumed operations. In the accommodation and catering industry, which was hit particularly hard by the COVID-19 epidemic, the resumption rate reached 94.21 percent. Enditem
