LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- AMC Theatres, the largest U.S. movie theater chain with Chinese conglomerate Wanda Group owning a majority stake, announced Tuesday the official launch of private theater rentals for as low as 99 U.S. dollars to entice moviegoers amid the ongoing pandemic.

Guests can rent out a showing for up to 20 friends and family members at any of AMC's approximately 600 theaters nationwide for as low as 99 dollars plus tax for a wide array of popular movies. New releases like "Tenet", "The War with Grandpa" and "Freaky" are available starting at 149 dollars plus tax, up to 349 dollars plus tax, depending on location and theater, said the company in a press release.

The launch came four weeks after the initial beta launch of the product, which resulted in 110,000 inquiries around the country. This number of contacts about a private rental in a four-week period was achieved without any significant marketing or press announcement, and it dwarfs the total number of AMC's private theater rentals in all of 2019 by more than four-fold, according to the company.

AMC sold 26,000 private theater rentals last year.

"The results and feedback from our guests about AMC Safe and Clean have been overwhelmingly positive, and Private Theatre Rentals at AMC provides an additional layer of safety and security to those moviegoers who are looking to see movies with just their family members and friends," said Elizabeth Frank, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Programming and Chief Content Officer at AMC Theatres.

AMC pledged to stay open as the company and other major U.S. theater chains continued to suffer financial hardship amid the ongoing pandemic. AMC reported last week a net loss of over 905 million dollars in the third quarter ending Sept. 30 as the pandemic dug into sales. Enditem
