KABUL -- Two police officers were killed and another wounded after an improvised bomb tore apart a police van in the Afghan capital of Kabul on Wednesday, the capital police confirmed.

The incident happened when a police ranger-type van was blown up by a sticky Improvised Explosive Device (IED), killing two police officers and injuring another in Khair Khana neighborhood at about 6:30 a.m. local time, Kabul police spokesman Ferdaus Faramarz told reporters. KABUL -- Two people were killed and two others wounded after an Afghan Air Force Mi-17 helicopter crashed in the country's eastern Nangarhar province Tuesday night, the country's Ministry of Defense confirmed on Wednesday.

"A Mi-17 helicopter of Afghan Air Force crashed following a technical failure during takeoff in Hisarak district, Nangarhar province last night. One crew and a police were martyred and two persons were wounded," the ministry said in a statement.(Afghanistan-Nangarhar-Helicopter Crash)

HONG KONG -- The government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said Wednesday that four members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) have been disqualified by a decision adopted by the Standing Committee of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature.

The four LegCo members are Alvin Yeung, Dennis Kwok, Kwok Ka-ki and Kenneth Leung, the sixth-term LegCo members whose nominations to stand for the seventh-term LegCo election originally scheduled on Sept. 6 were invalidated by the HKSAR.

According to the NPC Standing Committee decision, LegCo members shall be disqualified for the office once they are determined by law to have failed to meet the legal requirements of upholding the HKSAR Basic Law and honoring the pledge of allegiance to the HKSAR.(Hong Kong-Disqualification-LegCo)

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) Wednesday reported 1,672 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the country's total tally to 401,416.

The DOH said that 311 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 362,217. The death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic rose to 7,710 with 49 new deaths.(Philippines-COVID-19-Tally) Enditem
