LONDON, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chinese snooker player Tian Pengfei has tested positive for COVID-19 and has been withdrawn from the ongoing German Masters qualifiers held in Milton Keynes, England.

The German Masters 2021 Qualifiers is scheduled to be staged in the Marshall Arena from Tuesday to Saturday and Tian was due to play Ashley Hugill on Wednesday evening.

But the 33-year-old Tian has tested positive upon arrival, giving Hugill a bye to the second round of the world ranking event.

"All other players and officials tested at the event so far have had negative results," read a statement from the World Snooker Tour (WST) on Wednesday.

Tian went back to China at the end of March, then traveled to the UK again together with Chinese top player Ding Junhui in early July ahead of the World Championships.

The WST confirmed that Tian, world number 49, will also be withdrawn from next week's Northern Ireland Open at the same venue.

The world number 10 Ding beat Martin Gould 5-3 in his opening match on Tuesday and will meet Ashley Carty in the second round. Enditem
