NUR-SULTAN, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan has detected 638 new COVID-19 cases over the past day, bringing the total to 119,129, the country's interdepartmental commission said Friday.

As of Friday, the country has registered a total of 1,924 COVID-19-related deaths and 108,958 recoveries.

The chief state sanitary doctor Yerlan Kiyasov said Thursday that the incidence of COVID-19 in Kazakhstan over the past week has grown by 1.7 times compared to the previous one.

Four regions, namely East Kazakhstan, West Kazakhstan, Pavlodar and Kostanay have been listed as being in the "red zone" for coronavirus, while the Akmola Region and the capital Nur-Sultan are categorized as being in the "yellow zone." The rest of the cities and regions are in the "green zone."

According to the Kazakh health authorities, the categorization is associated with the reproduction number, also known as the R number, as well as the incidence rate per 100,000 people over the past 7 days.

Restriction measures have been tightened as the COVID-19 cases are growing quickly this month in the country. Entry and exit to cities in the "red zone" have been limited and sanitary checkpoints have been established on highways. Air and rail links to the "red zone" have been cut.
