Roundup: Iran's COVID-19 cases rise to 738,322 as Morocco's total infections surpass 280,000

CAIRO, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Iran's COVID-19 cases increased to 738,322 on Friday. Meanwhile, Morocco's tally of coronavirus infections exceeded 280,000.

Iran, the hardest-hit country in the Middle East region, reported 11,737 new cases, bringing the total number of infections to 738,322.

The pandemic has so far claimed 40,582 lives in Iran, up by 461 in the past 24 hours. A total of 546,642 coronavirus patients have recovered, with 5,630 still in critical condition.

In the meantime, Morocco registered 5,515 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally in the North African country to 282,336, the health ministry said in a statement.

It also reported 61 new deaths and 3,120 more recovered cases from the coronavirus, raising the death toll in Morocco to 4,631 and the total recoveries to 229,160, while 999 patients remained in the intensive care units.

In Iraq, 2,690 new COVID-19 cases were detected during the past 24 hours, bringing the total nationwide infections to 514,496.

The death toll from the coronavirus in Iraq rose to 11,580 after 48 fatalities were added, while the total recoveries increased to 441,856 as 2,628 more patients recovered.

The total number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey climbed by 3,045 to 407,939.

The death toll from the coronavirus in the country rose to 11,326 after 93 new fatalities were added in the past 24 hours, while the total recoveries increased to 348,804 with 2,010 new ones.

On the same day, Turkish Health Minister Fahrettin Koca warned that the numbers of COVID-19 patients in critical condition and deaths are increasing in the country as the rate of pneumonia in coronavirus patients hit 4.2 percent and the number of seriously ill patients reached 3,356.

Saudi Arabia announced 441 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the tally to 352,601.

The recoveries also rose to 339,568 with the reporting of 454 recovered cases. The death toll reached 5,625 with the registration of 20 more fatalities.

Israel's Ministry of Health reported 536 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total infections to 322,695.

The number of death cases reached 2,716 with 10 new fatalities, while the number of recoveries rose to 312,131 with 1,526 new ones.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced 1,226 new cases, raising the total confirmed cases in the country to 147,961.

The tally of recoveries in the UAE rose to 141,883 after 668 more patients have recovered from the virus and the death toll reached 528 with five more deaths.

In Jordan, 4,469 new COVID-19 cases and 71 more deaths were recorded, increasing the tally of cases to 136,555 and the death toll to 1,618.

Kuwait reported 718 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths, raising the tally of infections to 135,650 and the death toll to 833 in the country.

The Kuwaiti health ministry also announced the recovery of 751 more patients, taking the total recoveries in the country to 126,344.

In Qatar, 235 new cases of coronavirus infections were detected, increasing the total number to 135,367, including 234 deaths and 132,356 recoveries.

The total number of confirmed cases in Oman has reached 119,442, with 110,050 recoveries and 1,326 deaths.

Palestine reported 730 new coronavirus cases, taking the tally of infections in the Palestinian territories to 73,697, including 623 deaths and 64,937 recoveries.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-run ministry of interior announced that it decided to tighten the precautionary measures to combat the spread of the virus in the besieged Gaza Strip.

“The ministry decided to close all establishments, facilities, and shops, starting at 5 p.m. in the evening every day and banned the gatherings of more than 15 persons, including funerals, mourning, and weddings,” the ministry said in a press statement.

It added that the ministry also decided to prevent the gathering and overcrowding in public markets and keep the night curfew enforced from 8 p.m. until 7 a.m.

Libya announced on Friday that 824 new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Thursday, raising the total nationwide infections to 72,628, including 43,259 recoveries and 995 fatalities.

In Algeria, the total number of cases reached 65,975 with an addition of 867 infections which included 2,125 deaths and 43,839 recoveries. Enditem
