Live COVID-19 updates: China-developed vaccine to enter late-stage trial in Uzbekistan

BEIJING, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

TASHKENT -- The Uzbek government has recently told media that the country will carry out a phase-3 trial of a China-developed vaccine for COVID-19, which makes the vaccine China's fifth candidate to enter late-stage human tests overseas.

The ministry has announced that 5,000 Uzbek volunteers aged between 18 and 59 will attend the third phase of the pilot process, which will continue for a year.

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN -- Brunei reported no new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday with the national tally of cases standing at 148.

It marked the 23rd consecutive day without new cases since Oct. 22, when the country recorded an imported case from Kuala Lumpur.

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday reported 1,650 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 406,337.

It is the fifth straight day the daily increase of cases in the Philippines came below 2,000, which is the first time since July.

SOFIA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Bulgaria has doubled in less than four weeks, reaching 2,055, according to official figures revealed on Saturday morning.

The country's health ministry said 85 new deaths were registered in last 24 hours, the second highest daily increase since Bulgaria reported its first COVID-19 death on March 11.

BEIJING -- One new imported asymptomatic case of COVID-19 was reported in Beijing on Friday, the municipal health commission said Saturday.

A 53-year-old man arrived in Beijing from Toronto, Canada, on Thursday. After undergoing a nucleic acid test at the customs, he was sent to a designated hotel for quarantine.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,773,479 on Saturday as 44,684 new cases were registered across the country in the past 24 hours, said latest data released by the federal health ministry.

With 520 deaths since Friday morning, the total death toll in the country due to the pandemic reached 129,188, added the ministry's data.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 205 more cases of the COVID-19 as of Saturday compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 28,338.

The daily caseload surpassed 200 in 73 days since Sept. 2, growing in triple digits for the seventh consecutive day due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases.

WELLINGTON -- New Zealand reported three new cases of COVID-19, all in managed isolation and quarantine facilities, said the Ministry of Health in a statement on Saturday.
