TEHRAN, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday announced that new restrictions will be implemented in most parts of the country as a measure to deal with the recent surge of the novel coronavirus, official IRNA news agency reported.
The restrictions will come into force from Nov. 21, Rouhani said at a meeting of the National Headquarters for Managing and Fighting the Coronavirus.
This project will continue until the eradication of the COVID-19 in the country, and the national headquarters alongside the Ministry of Health are responsible of carrying out the plan, said Rouhani.
The Iranian president did not elaborate on the details of the plan, but according to the report, more than 100 cities will be categorized as high-risk zones across the country and will be subject to new restrictive regulations.
On Saturday, Iran's total COVID-19 infections rose to 749,525 and death toll reached 41,034.
Last week, Iran announced nationwide hourly restrictions on business activities to tackle the surge in COVID-19 cases.
The curfew was supposed to be implemented for one month in the capital Tehran and in all provincial capital cities after 6 p.m. for all businesses except "level one businesses" which include medical centers, pharmacies, rescue services, firefighting, ambulances and public services. Enditem
