Live COVID-19 updates: India's death toll surpasses 130,000, tally mounts to 8,845,127

BEIJING, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally reached 8,845,127 on Monday as 30,548 new cases were registered across the country in the past 24 hours, according to the federal health ministry.

With 435 deaths since Sunday morning, the total death toll in the country due to the pandemic mounted to 130,070, added the ministry's data.

SAO PAULO -- With 140 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, Brazil's death toll from COVID-19 hit 165,798, the Ministry of Health reported on Sunday.

The ministry said that another 14,134 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, raising the national caseload to 5,863,093.

MEXICO CITY -- Mexico reported 3,269 new cases of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,006,522 with 98,542 deaths, the country's health ministry said.

The number of confirmed cases is lower than the estimated 1,166,165 cases, while the death toll is estimated at 114,000, according to the ministry.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia confirmed three new COVID-19 cases, bringing the national caseload to 431, the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD) said Monday.

"A total of 1,818 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the country yesterday and three of them were positive," said Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the NCCD's Surveillance Department, at a press conference.

URUMQI -- No new confirmed COVID-19 cases or asymptomatic cases were reported in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on Sunday, the regional health commission said Monday.

This was the eighth consecutive day that Xinjiang reported zero increase in COVID-19 infections since recent cluster infections were tamed.

BISHKEK -- Kyrgyzstan's headquarters for combating COVID-19 reported on Monday 479 new COVID-19 cases, taking the nationwide count to 66,983.

The headquarters also reported 439 more recoveries and four more deaths, bringing the total recoveries to 57,760 and the death toll to 1,203.

SEOUL -- South Korea reported 223 more cases of the COVID-19 as of 0:00 a.m. Monday local time compared to 24 hours ago, raising the total number of infections to 28,769.

The daily caseload hovered above 200 for three straight days, growing in triple digits for nine days running due to small cluster infections in Seoul and its surrounding Gyeonggi province as well as imported cases. Enditem
