BUCHAREST -- Moldova's former Prime Minister Maia Sandu was projected to win the second round of the country's presidential election, with more than 99 percent of the votes counted late Sunday, according to reports reaching here.

Sandu, also leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity, was leading with 57 percent, while incumbent President Igor Dodon, another contender for Moldova's highest position in the next four years, was lagging behind with 43 percent, said the country's Central Electoral Commission. ATHENS -- The marble head of an ancient Greek sculpture was unearthed during roadworks in central Athens, the Greek Culture and Sports Ministry announced Sunday.

The head depicting Hermes, a deity considered the messenger of the Gods and protector of travelers and merchants among others in ancient Greek mythology, was found by construction workers of the municipality of Athens on Friday in Aiolou street close to the Acropolis hill, according to an e-mailed press release. LIMA -- Peruvian President Manuel Merino presented his resignation on Sunday amid protests that broke out across the country after he assumed the presidency on Tuesday, following the removal of former President Martin Vizcarra.
