KAMPALA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Uganda will open against South Sudan in the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) regional qualifiers scheduled to start in neighboring Tanzania from Nov. 22 to Dec. 6.
According to the fixture released on Monday by the Council of East and Central African Football Association (CECAFA), Uganda will face South Sudan in their Group B game on Nov. 23. Burundi is the other team in the group.
Morley Byekwaso, head coach of Uganda's U-20 team, said, "We shall take every game like a final because our major target is to qualify for the AFCON event."
Tanzania, Somalia and Djibouti are categorized in Group A while Ethiopia, Kenya and Sudan are in Group C.
The best teams in each of the three groups will automatically qualify for the semifinal stage, while the best losers from the three groups will also earn a place in the semifinal.
The best two teams in the region, according to the Confederation of African Football, the continent's football governing body, will represent the CECAFA region at the 2021 AFCON U-20 scheduled to take place in Mauritania. Enditem
