OTTAWA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Manufacturing sales climbed 1.5 percent to 53.8 billion Canadian dollars (about 41.1 billion U.S. dollars) in September, following a 1.4 percent fall in August, according to Statistics Canada on Monday.

The sales increased in 13 of 21 manufacturing industries led by the wood, chemical and food industries.

However, the sales were 3.6 percent below their pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels in February.

The manufacturing sales in constant dollars rose 2.1 percent, indicating a larger volume of products was sold in September.

In the wood industry, sales jumped 9.6 percent in September to a record high of 3.3 billion Canadian dollars, on higher sales at sawmills and wood preservation manufacturers.

The sales in the chemical industry rose 6.7 percent to 4.5 billion Canadian dollars in September, driven by higher pharmaceutical and medicine sales.

The sales in the food industry increased for the second consecutive month, up 1.3 percent to 9.2 billion Canadian dollars in September. Enditem
