TOKYO, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened higher Tuesday, with the Nikkei surpassing the 26,000 mark for the first time in over 29 years, amid investors' boosted sentiment with U.S. drugmaker Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine development.
As of 9:15 a.m. the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 112.74 points, or 0.44 percent, from Monday to 26,019.67, logging the highest intraday level since May 14, 1991.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 1.38 points, or 0.08 percent, at 1,733.19.
Air transportation, insurance and bank issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
