BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

NEW DELHI -- Indian vaccine maker Bharat Biotech said it has started phase III trials of its COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin.

"Phase 3 clinical trial of Covaxin takes off as the largest efficacy trial ever conducted in India, with about 26,000 participants," the vaccine maker said in a statement issued Monday.

PARIS -- France is regaining control over the coronavirus thanks to recent lockdown measures introduced by the government, the country's Health Minister Oliver Veran said Tuesday.

"We are in a phase where the pandemic is decreasing, even if it remains at a high level," Veran told local media a day after France's daily new cases dropped to a more than one-month low. "It means that the measures adopted by the government are working."

TEHRAN -- Iran reported on Tuesday 13,352 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 788,473.

Of the newly infected in the past 24 hours, 3,079 required hospitalization, said Sima Sadat Lari, spokeswoman for Iran's Ministry of Health and Medical Education, during her daily briefing, according to the ministry's website.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,212 new COVID-19 cases and 39 new deaths on Tuesday, making the tally at 436,684 and death toll at 6,254, the Directorate General of Health Services said.

The official data showed that 15,990 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported five new cases of COVID-19 infection on Tuesday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,288 with 35 deaths from the disease so far, according to its Ministry of Health.

All the new cases are Vietnamese citizens who recently entered the country from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry.

ULAN BATOR -- Five more locally transmitted cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Selenge province in northern Mongolia on Tuesday, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 440, including 27 locally transmitted cases as of Tuesday evening.

TOKYO -- Job offers to new graduates in Japan have reduced sharply and at the fastest pace in more than a decade due to Japanese companies' efforts to reduce cost amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a government survey revealed Tuesday.

As of Oct. 1, 69.8 percent of university students who will graduate next spring have received job offers, down 7.0 points compared to a year earlier, a joint survey by the education and labor ministries showed.
