KIGALI, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Rwanda settled for a 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in Tuesday's 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at Kigali Stadium.

Rwanda's Ally Niyonzima was sent off for a second bookable offence on 33 minutes, but Cape Verde were unable to exploit their man advantage, with Rwanda goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera in fine form.

"We definitely wanted to win at home but we were challenged by the sending off of one of our players during the first half. All in all, we are thankful for the point," Rwanda head coach Vincent Mashami said afterwards.

Rwanda can still qualify for AFCON 2021 if they win upcoming matches against Mozambique and Cameroon, Mashami added. "We shall continue to work hard to make sure that we qualify for AFCON."

Rwanda will host Mozambique on March 22 next year and later play away game with Cameroon on March 30.

After the goalless draw, Rwanda currently sit bottom of AFCON qualifying Group F with two points from four matches. Cameroon lead the way with ten points, with Mozambique sitting second on four points, ahead of Cape Verde on goal difference.

Only the top two teams from each of the 12 qualifying groups will make the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon. Enditem
