SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- An Indian army soldier was killed and two others injured from an avalanche that hit their post located in the Indian-controlled Kashmir, local officials said Wednesday.
The avalanche that occurred on Tuesday hit the forward post in the Tangdhar sector of the Kupwara district, about 155 km northwest of the Srinagar city, the summer capital of the Indian-controlled Kashmir.
"One army soldier was killed and two others injured in an avalanche incident at Roshan Post in Tangdhar area of Kupwara district at around 8:00 p.m. yesterday," a local government official said.
A rescue operation saved the three victims from under debris, all injured, and rushed them to the nearest medical facility, with one of them declared dead upon arrival.
Indian authorities had already issued an avalanche warning in the area in view of the recent snowfall in upper reaches of the Indian-controlled Kashmir.
