DAR ES SALAAM, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- At least one artisanal miner had been killed and two others were injured in a mine landslide in northern Tanzania's Simuyu region, an official said on Wednesday.

Festo Kiswaga, Bariadi district commissioner in Simiyu region, said the landslide occurred on Tuesday evening when the miners were digging gold at Bulumbaka gold mine.

"The landslide was caused by heavy rains that hit the area for the whole day," Kiswaga told a news conference in Bariadi town.

Kiswaga urged mining officials to conduct regular inspections of mining areas to avoid further accidents. Enditem
