KIEV, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine registered 256 new COVID-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the total toll to 10,112, the country's health ministry said on Wednesday.

A total of 12,496 people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country in the past 24 hours, while 8,096 patients have recovered.

A total of 570,153 COVID-19 cases have been registered in Ukraine as of Wednesday, while 259,079 patients have recovered, according to the ministry.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said Wednesday during a government meeting that the weekend quarantine is a balanced alternative to a full lockdown.

On Nov. 11, Ukraine decided to introduce a weekend quarantine in the country from Nov. 14 to Nov. 30.

Under decision, mass events with over 20 people, beauty salons, and shopping and entertainment facilities will be prohibited from operating on weekends in Ukraine. Enditem
