BEIJING, Nov. 19 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

YANGON -- Myanmar has reported 1,560 new cases of COVID-19 with 26 more deaths in the past 24 hours, according to a release from Health and Sports Ministry on Thursday.

With newly confirmed cases, the number of infections has risen to 74,882 while its death toll increased to 1,676.

BANGKOK -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Thursday reaffirmed Thailand's support to the ongoing international efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delivering a speech on the virtual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Dialogues hosted by Malaysia on Thursday, the Thai prime minister pledged his support for the launch of an information-sharing platform on the COVID-19 to create a database for business recovery.

BUDAPEST -- Hungary on Thursday registered 4,512 new COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour span, raising the national total to 161,461, according to official data.

In the past 24 hours, another 92 people have died from the disease, taking the death toll to 3,472 in the country, while 36,345 have recovered. Currently, 7,532 patients are being treated in hospitals, and 580 of them are on ventilators, showed figures from the government's coronavirus information website.

TEHRAN -- Iran announced on Thursday 13,223 new COVID-19 confirmed infections in the past 24 hours, raising the total number to 815,117 cases.

Spokeswoman for the Iranian Ministry of Health and Medical Education Sima Sadat Lari said that 2,938 of the newly infected required hospitalization at her daily briefing.

TBILISI -- Georgia reported 3,697 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, bringing its total to 93,092.

A total of 1,256 of the 3,697 new cases were confirmed in the capital city of Tbilisi, the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) said.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia reported 1,290 new COVID-19 infections, the Health Ministry said on Thursday, bringing the national total to 51,680.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that five of the new cases are imported and 1,285 being local transmissions.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported four new cases of COVID-19 infection on Thursday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,304 with 35 deaths from the disease so far, according to its Ministry of Health.

All the new cases are Vietnamese citizens who recently entered the country from abroad and were quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,364 new confirmed COVID-19 cases and 30 more deaths on Thursday, making the tally at 441,159 with 6,305 deaths, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 17,531 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

KATHMANDU -- The Nepali government has reopened Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha, for tourists, since Wednesday, nearly eight months after its closure, said a senior official of Lumbini Development Trust.

Nearly two weeks after the Nepali cabinet decided to reopen tourism-related services such as cable car, adventure tourism, jungle safari and museum, the trust, an autonomous body under the government formed to preserve and develop the Lumbini area, decided to reopen one of the important religious and tourist sites of the Himalayan country.

UNITED NATIONS -- The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on Wednesday warned in a new report of growing consequences for children as the COVID-19 pandemic drags on.

While symptoms among infected children remain mild, infections are rising and the longer-term impact on the education, nutrition and well-being of an entire generation of children and young people can be life-altering, said the report entitled "Averting a Lost COVID Generation."

VIENTIANE -- The Lao government has continued to closely monitor people entering the country to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

Deputy Director General of the Department of Communicable Disease Control under Lao Ministry of Health, Latsamy Vongkhamsao, told a press conference in Lao capital Vientiane on Thursday that the government urged authorities countrywide to continue monitoring people entering Laos to prevent a second wave of COVID-19.

KIEV -- Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his retest for COVID-19 was still positive but he felt better, Interfax-Ukraine news agency reported on Thursday.

"My retest, unfortunately, is still positive, but I continue to work every day. This is my job. The only difference is that I work not on Bankova Street, but on Academician Zabolotny Street (where the Feofania hospital is located)," Zelensky said in his blog on Wednesday. Enditem
