Live COVID-19 updates: Romania's confirmed caseload surpasses 400,000

BEIJING, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

BUCHAREST -- Romania's confirmed coronavirus caseload surpassed 400,000 since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching 403,123, and the death toll is now 9,756, official data showed on Friday.

In the last 24 hours, another 9,272 cases were confirmed and 160 people died, according to the Strategic Communication Group (GCS), Romania's official COVID-19 communication task force.

ULAN BATOR -- Mongolia confirmed two more locally transmitted COVID-19 cases on Friday evening, according to the country's National Center for Communicable Diseases (NCCD).

The latest confirmed cases were reported in Selenge province in northern Mongolia, Amarjargal Ambaselmaa, head of the Surveillance Department of the NCCD, said at a press conference.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 557, including 130 locally transmitted cases as of Friday evening.

HANOI -- Vietnam reported a new case of COVID-19 infection on Friday, bringing its total confirmed cases to 1,305 with 35 deaths from the disease so far, according to its Ministry of Health.

The new case is a Vietnamese man who recently entered the country from abroad and was quarantined upon arrival, said the ministry.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh reported 2,275 new COVID-19 cases and 17 new deaths on Friday, making the tally at 443,434 and death toll at 6,322, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

The official data showed that 15,607 samples were tested in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh.

ADDIS ABABA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the African continent has reached 2,026,841, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said on Friday.

The death toll related to the pandemic stood at 48,681, the continental disease control and prevention agency said in a statement.

JAKARTA -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,792 in the past 24 hours to 488,310, with the death toll increasing by 78 to 15,678, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, 3,940 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 410,552.

BRUSSELS -- Top European Union (EU) officials have underscored the need to be more cautious about lifting restrictions amid the second wave of COVID-19 infections.
