7 killed in truck-car crash in India's Gujarat

NEW DELHI, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- At least seven people from a family were killed Saturday after a car they were travelling in collided with a dumper truck in the western Indian state of Gujarat, police said.

The accident took place in Patdi area of Surendranagar district, 114 km west of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat.

"Today seven persons of a family were killed when a car carrying them collided with a dumper truck here," a police official posted in Surendranagar said. "Following the collision, a fire broke in the car."

According to the police official, the vehicle was badly mangled after colliding with the dumper truck.

Reports said the driver of the dumper truck fled from the spot after the deadly crash.

The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Police have registered a case to ascertain the reason behind the accident. Enditem
