Live COVID-19 updates: Russia reports record daily infection cases

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The following are the updates on the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

MOSCOW -- Russia registered 24,822 COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, a new all-time high, as the pandemic worsens in the cold season, the country's COVID-19 response center said Saturday.

The national tally of cases has grown to 2,064,748, including 35,778 deaths and 1,577,435 recoveries, the center said in a statement.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong on Saturday reported the highest number of daily new cases of COVID-19 in about three months, with the authorities toughening up measures to fend off a new wave of the epidemic outbreak.

The Center for Health Protection (CHP) said there were seven new imported cases and 36 local infections on Saturday, including 13 with unknown origins.

JAKARTA -- The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 4,998 within one day to 493,308, with the death toll adding by 96 to 15,774, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, 3,403 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 413,955.

MANILA -- The Department of Health (DOH) of the Philippines on Saturday reported 1,791 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection, bringing the total number in the country to 416,852.

The DOH said 328 more patients recovered, raising the total number of recoveries to 375,548. The death toll climbed to 8,080 after 55 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH added.

MINSK -- Belarus reported 1,588 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 122,435, the country's health ministry said.

There have been 1,364 new recoveries in the past 24 hours, bringing its total to 102,113, the ministry added. Enditem
