NEW YORK, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The COVID-19 infection rate on a seven-day average hit 3.11 percent in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Saturday.
The rate was declared on Friday as reaching 3.02 percent, on Thursday 3.01 percent and on Wednesday 3.00 percent.
All the public schools in the city ended in-person learning indefinitely on Thursday due to the rate's ascent to 3 percent, and the mayor said on the same day that "it's just a matter of time" before indoor dining and gyms close, and "it's very likely to be in the next week or two."
These measures would be triggered if the state declares New York City an "orange zone" based on an increased number of people testing positive for the coronavirus.
On Saturday, the mayor also reminded people on his Twitter account to "Wear a mask. Avoid large gatherings. Get tested."
As of Friday afternoon, coronavirus deaths have added up to 24,188 and confirmed cases to 288,869 in New York City, according to The City, a project that tracks the spread of confirmed COVID-19 infections and fatalities in New York City, based on information provided by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the governor's office, The COVID Tracking Project and the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University.
