SANTIAGO, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Chile's Ministry of Health on Saturday reported 1,550 new daily cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total caseload to 539,143.

Meanwhile, the number of daily COVID-19 fatalities came to 27, raising the death toll to 15,030.

"We are seeing with concern how the number of cases has been increasing in some southern regions" of the country, the deputy minister of health, Paula Daza, told a press conference.

Currently, 712 people are hospitalized in intensive care units, including 552 on ventilators and 78 in critical condition, she said.

Chile remains under a state of catastrophe, with a nighttime curfew to reduce circulation and the spread of the virus.

However, several cities have moved to relax lockdown measures, while others, mainly in the south, have had to revert to stricter lockdowns due to a rise in infections. Enditem
